Tomorrow June 20th, 2010 is Father's Day. With the change over time in the structure of families, not every child has a father or mother present in their family. In these times, some families have one mother, or a father, step mothers, step fathers, two mothers, two fathers and the combination can go on and on.
No matter what your family structure looks like, we hope that you find a way to celebrate tomorrow. Celebrate your parents. Celebrate your family.
Happy parent's day, father's day and Happy Family Day to everyone for tomorrow. For those who might not have a father, don't focus on what you do not have, Celebrate the family and support that you do have.
Here is a video that is done by a youngster and is pretty popular. It illustrates my point. There are kids out there who do not have a father around for whatever reason. Maybe they passed away, maybe they were just never known. Remember to celebrate what you have.
I still have my dad, so tomorrow I will be calling him to let him know just how important he is to me. My little one does not have a dad, so tomorrow we will be celebrating having parents. Make tomorrow a day to treasure what you have.
I found this amazing photo contest that you have to check out. The yearly contest prize is a $25,000 college fund. How amazing is that as a grand prize! It is free to join and enter online. Some of the kids that were entered in past contests via this website have gone on to be seen in Sesame Street, Fisher Price, Disney and Sears ads. You have to check this out for yourself.
There are also monthly contests that you can enter under various categories. I will post a few of the categories here but you can browse them all on the website.

Mandi Schwartz, a 22-year old member of the Yale women’s ice hockey team, has recently been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia for the second time. She is currently back home in Saskatchewan, Canada undergoing chemotherapy, and within the next 30-45 days she will have to have a stem cell transplant to survive. We have not yet located a donor who is a perfect match.
Under the leadership of Dr. Tedd Collins, a New Haven-based clinical immunologist, we are undertaking a world-wide search for cord blood and bone marrow donors. In addition to helping Mandi, these donors could also save the lives of many others with life-threatening illnesses. Dr. Collins has launched the “Become Mandi’s Hero” campaign to coordinate our efforts to find donors. The process of donating a newborn baby's cord blood is free & harmless for all involved, and it could save a life. In many cases the umbilical cords that could save someone like Mandi’s life wind up getting thrown away.
Dr. Collins will send cord blood collection kits to people who request them free of charge & will even pay for return postage (a cost that is usually in the $1000s). Expectant mothers can visit www.BecomeMandisHero.org to learn more about the cord blood donation process. Attached is a brochure that explains how to get a kit from Dr. Collins if you are an expectant mother.
There is also a $1,000 reward to the mother with a successful match. Those of German, Russian, and Ukranian ancestry are strongly encouraged to donate, however, a cord blood donation of any ancestry can obviously still impact someone's life.
By helping Mandi you will be giving birth to two lives at once.
Thank you!
The other day my kids were watching a bit of television, when all the sudden a commercial for Kellogg's came on. Next thing I knew, I heard my youngest saying, "Mom, I want all those shirts please." That caught my attention and I looked up to see about this new Kellogg's Promotion.
The promotion is running from May 10th, 2010 to August 10th, 2010. What it is all about is these awesome free Adidas sport shirts that are free when you purchase a specially marked box of certain Kellogg"s cereals. These specially marked boxes have a code inside and the code is used to obtain your FREE shirt. And yes, I do me free because for this promotion even shipping and handling is FREE. From my experience, most promotions you have to pay for shipping and handling, but not with this Kellogg's Promotion.
So here is what you have to do to get your free Adidas shirt.
1. Buy a specially marked box of Kellogg's cereal.
2. Look inside the box, on the box itself for your special code.
3. Go to the Kellogg's / Adidas promotion website and enter your code. Then pick the shirt of your choice, size and give them your address.
4. Wait for 6 - 10 weeks and your shirt should be in the mail.
Here are the products that are specially marked for this promotion:
* Corn Pops* cereal: 515 g
* Froot Loops* cereal: 580 g
* Kellogg's Frosted Flakes* cereal: 680g
* Mini-Wheats* Brown Sugar Flavour cereal: 850 g
* Rice Krispies* cereal: 700 g
* Mini-Wheats* Original cereal: 850 g
Here are the shirts that are available:
Sizes are available in small, medium, and large.
Four designs to choose from:
- 'Soccer' Toucan Sam* print.
- 'Soccer' Snap!*, Crackle!* and Pop!* print.
- 'Soccer' Tony the Tiger* print.
- Adidas branded Soccer shirt.
There are some Legal Disclaimers of course that deal with the fact that there are limited quantities. So remember that the offer is only good while supplies last. There are apparently a of 175,000 Adidas Soccer Tees available. And the offer is for Canadian shipping addresses only.
Remember not to save up the codes and wait to enter them. You could find that there are no more shirts available. You also have to enter your codes by August 10th, 2010 in or they are not valid anymore.
I ordered three shirts tonight. My little one is going to be so happy.
I purchased this book just the other day for my little one.

The book was located in out local bookstore under the must have section. I grabbed it and quickly read it. By the time I was finished reading the book, I had tears in my eyes and knew that this was a special book. I knew that this book, I wanted to purchase, write a note in and have it for when my little one was much older. I thought "Someday" she will pick the book up and read it, then read the note I wrote and think of us and our time together. What a moment!
The local bookstore was right, "Someday" is a must have book. No home library is complete without it. Well, that is at least our opinion here in our home.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Thank you Alison McGhee for writing such an amazing book.
Answer a few questions and let us know what you think of the book.
I was sitting watching my daughter participate in her gymnastics class today and overheard to mom's talking about their babies and crawling. The one parent's concern was that with the warm, shorts weather, that her daughter who was learning to walk, would keep falling and scrape her knees in shorts. The mother was just not sure how to dress her little one without her being too hot, but keeping her knees protected.
Overhearing the conversation reminded me of a product that I purchased when my daughter was at that crawling, walking and falling stage. They were called wee knees. Basically they were little comfy, flexible and soft knee pads. They were awesome. The knee pads now come in all different colors and patterns. There are a number of companies that make the knee pads now too.
The knee pads are very affordable and will save the skin on your little one's knees. It is a simple but amazing product that I think every little one needs.
Check out this video on one type of knee pads featured in the carousel widget above.
I have a habit of browsing the Crayola website because simply put, I truly love Crayola products. I love that I feel like I can trust Crayola for safety, creativity, ingenuity and high entertainment value for all their products. If ever I felt that a Crayola product let me down in the least, I contacted the Crayola customer service and was more than satisfied by the response and help I received from the representative on the other end of the line. I truly feel appreciated as a customer by Crayola. Something in this day and age that I truly can say I feel has gone by the wayside by larger companies is customer appreciation, but not with Crayola.
Well, I got sidetracked their telling you just how much I love Crayola.....
That one day a few months back when I was doing my typical browsing of the Crayola website, I came across Crayola color play sand. I was excited about this product. I blogged about it one already and this information can be located in my blog called Crayola Play Sand.
Well, I searched and searched the internet and I could locate everywhere under the sun where you could purchase Crayola color play sand in the USA, but that did not do me any good cause I live in Canada. I did not want to pay for duty and shipping of play sand from the USA to Canada. The duty and fees and shipping would be out of this world for such a heavy product. So there was only one option left. I contacted Crayola. I wanted that wonderful, colorful Crayola play sand for my kids.
As usual, I quickly received a response from Crayola. The sand was not yet available in Canada. I was devastated. Crayola promised to contact me when their Crayola color sand was to be released in Canada as it was to be coming soon. I was excited. I made a request or an offer. I offered to test out samples of the Crayola Play Sand if Crayola was willing to send me some. To my pure and ecstatic joy, Crayola put samples of their colorful play sand in the mail for me.
I of course assumed that Crayola would send me small samples of one color of their play sand. Was I impressed, surprised and delighted when I received 21 pounds of Crayola Play Sand. It arrived safely in four plastic tubs. One tub for every available color of sand that Crayola makes; pink, blue, green and purple. It was enough of a sample to fill my kids' sandbox up enough for them to play and enjoy.
Let me tell you this.....this picture was taken as fast as I could after getting the four colors into our kids' sandbox. They were in there playing with it and mixing it around so fast I could not get a photo of the four colors side by side.
I have to tell you though, that the color that is created when all four colors are mixed together is just incredible. The texture of the sand is so soft it is almost difficult to explain. I am not sure if a baby's bum is softer or the Crayola Play Sand is softer! The colors are vibrant and just amazing.
We really tested the color play sand for color transfer. My youngest loves to sit and climb right into her sandbox. The color got on her clothes so the big question was, will the color wash off the clothes...... Without any extra effort and no need to spot treat, the color that got on our little one's clothes came 100% off in the wash with only one wash. There was no need for special treating of spots or rinsing prior or any extra attention whatsoever. We just threw the clothes in the laundry, let them sit till it was their turn for the wash and washed away. The clothes were dried and then pulled out. There was not a single trace of color from the sand.
Now lets talk some stats that Crayola provides for their color play sand.
* Crayola Play Sand is an extremely high quality glacial age sand that has been washed and painted with non-toxic color dispersion.
* It is high purity quartz sand made up of 99.8% quartz. Quartz is the third hardest natural substance.
* Crayola products are independently tested by Duke University to ensure that they are non-toxic and that dangerous levels of respirable silica are not present.
* 100% asbestos free
* Virtually dist free (We could not see or find any dust even when pouring the sand in the sandbox).
* Non-irritating - it is tested by Bio-Science Laboratories Inc, for allergens and irritants.
* No chemicals are used for washing the sand and thus the sand is clean.
* No anti-fungal materials are placed in the sand.
* The sand is run through a rare earth magnet to ensure there is no metal in the sand.
* After the sand is washed, screened and the pigment added, it is then put through a dryer at 250 degrees.
* The sand is designed to be submerged 100% in water without color fade or bleed.
* UV protection is built in so the color does not fade.
So where can you get Crayola color play sand in Canada? Toys R Us.
I was told by Crayola that Toys R Us was to receive their shipment on April 23rd, 2010 into their warehouse. Well, that meant a release date in stores sometime around NOW! So I have been calling Toys R Us and driving by daily, waiting for any sign of colorful sand.....then today, we were driving by our local Toys R Us....and I spotted it. I could see pink, green and purple Crayola Play Sand in bags waiting for eager customers, parents and kids to come buy them all up. Yep, no blue in our store, but three out of four colors available is pretty good in my books.
Here is what I saw.....
Our little one was with us and between her and me, there were screams of pure excitement. We quickly drove into the parking lot, got a shopping cart and started loading 20 pound/9.072 kg bags of color play sand. We got four pink, two green and two purple.
The price per bag of Crayola play sand was $9.99. So how does that compare to other play sand? Well a normal bag of play sand that Toys R Us sells is twice the size and $5.99. We have always used the Toys R Us play sand that is $5.99 a bag prior to the Crayola play sand being available. There is no doubt that price wise, the Crayola play sand is a more expensive product. However, when you compare the softness, quality, and entertainment factors, there is no doubt that the Crayola play sand wins hands down. As long as Crayola play sand is available, I will not fill our sandbox with anything else. I like that I feel confident, safe and secure with Crayola products and I love that their products are so creative and imaginative. Honestly, I bought eight bags of the play sand as I was worried that they would sell out.
So this is what our sandbox looks like right now.
And this is my little one not wanting to keep away from the sand long enough for me to take a picture.
I hope that our review has helped you decide on whether or not Crayola play sand is for you. We sure love it and are having a blast with it.
And if you use sand for arts and crafts, I am sure that you will just love Crayola play sand for all your arts and crafts needs.
Please go to Crayola Play Sand – Now Available In Canada to view the surveyI overheard a few parents talking about this amazing clock that they purchased that helps to tell their when it is night time and when it is morning and they can get up. The idea behind the clock is simply that, should your child have the habit or occasion where they wake and want to get up, they can look at the Tot Clock or Children Sleep Training Clock and the picture will tell them if it is still night time or morning.
There are various versions of the clocks and basically, you just have to find the one that you like the look of and at a great price.
I think that these clocks are amazing.
There are various places and styles of clocks so I will list a few places for you here so you look into them and check out which one you might like.
You can find the clocks on EBay quite often so keep your eyes peeled for deal there.
