I feel extremely lucky to live so close to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It is a breathtaking to say the least.

I could probably not write one more word and just show pictures to you of the Capliano Suspension Bridge and you would want to be going. I will write a few words though, but first a picture.

There is enormous history to the Capliano Suspension Bridge that starts back in 1888 when "George Grant Mackay, a Scottish civil engineer and land developer, arrived in the young city of Vancouver in Canada. Mackay purchased 6,000 acres of dense forest on either side of Capilano River and built a cabin on the very edge of the canyon wall. The bridge, and Mackay's cabin, became a popular destination for adventurous friends, dubbed Capilano Tramps. After his death, the hemp rope bridge was replaced by a wire cable bridge in 1903."

I keep saying Capliano Suspension Bridge, but there is more to this attraction than a breathtaking Bridge.

I was able to go to the Serenata Flower website for International orders and even get it right down to the Vancouver, BC Canada service. I am so excited, happy and feel absolutely privileged to announce that I have been chosen as a KinderMom. :)

Every year I do a blog post to celebrate our mothers. My Mother's Day post is usually closer to May as in Canada and the US we celebrate Mother's Day in May.

Today I searched the Internet for Mother's Day information and came across Marks & Spencer Mother's Day Flowers. When I saw the beautiful Marks & Spencer Mother's Day Flowers website, I realized that every year I have been missing a lot of my fans in the UK with my Mother's Day posts.

I have done a little research now and have found out that in the United Kingdom, Mother's Day is also referred to as Mothering Sunday. Mother's Day in the United Kingdom is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Whereas Mother's Day in Canada and the US is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

So this year, we are posting our Mother's Day post in time to honor all our United Kingdom mother's. I am sorry we celebrated you so late over the last few years.

Mothers work hard day and night. Mothering is a full time job that receives the best payment possible, the love of our children. We get hugs and smiles. We get to witness achievements. We nurture and even have to lecture. We listen as well. We are there to cheer and to console. We are there for everything and we do it because we love our children more than words can explain.

Our job is so complex as a mother that I will leave it to Anita Renfroe to describe it as she does it so well.

Helping Your Children Make Homemade Valentine's Day Cards

Instead of buying pre-packaged Valentine's Day cards from the grocery store this year as your child prepares for his or her class's Valentine's Day card exchange, why not encourage your child's creativity by helping them craft their own Valentine's Day cards for their friends? Here we'll explore some easy steps you can take to help your children make their Valentine's Day cards by hand.

Gather all the materials your child will need.

Construction paper hearts are super-easy to make and lots of fun for your children to dress up. All you really need to do is purchase some construction paper (red and pink are the most Valentine-y, but your child may want to make blue, green and yellow Valentine's Day cards as well), scissors (maybe even some crazy scissors that create unique scalloped or otherwise stylized edges), some markers for the Valentine's Day message and some glue or tape for any decorations.

You may even pick up some lacy ribbon or doilies from a fabric or craft store for a different take on edges. Stickers are an option for decoration as well as the magazines you have lying around the house for clipping out fun images to paste on the heart with a glue-stick. Finally, consider individually-wrapped candies--like Smarties, Tootsie Rolls, gum or suckers--that your child can tape on to the Valentine as an added bonus.

Print out a heart pattern online.

Unless you're really great at drawing out a perfectly proportioned heart (I know I'm not) or have something heart-shaped around the house to trace, I suggest going online and doing a Google image search for heart patterns, blowing it up as big as you can and printing it out for your children to trace.

Make sure your child has a list of their classmates.

No one wants to be the kid left out who doesn't get any Valentines from his or her classmates. To keep this from happening, be sure you have a list of all the kids in your child's class. If your child's teacher hasn't already sent your child home with a list, ask the teacher to send you one.

Get to work!

Now that you have all the materials for your children's homemade Valentine's Day cards, set them to work! Supervise as they cut out the hearts and decorate the outside with lace. Let them come up with heartfelt messages for their friends and give them some ideas if they need them.

Helpful hints: Writing doesn't always show up well on red construction paper, so you may want to cut out a smaller heart with white construction paper and let your child write his or her Valentine's Day message on that instead, affixing it later to the bigger red heart with a glue-stick. Encourage your child to write out their message on another piece of paper first before finally writing it on the Valentine's card to prevent mess-ups. Have fun!

5 Tips for Safe Trick-or-Treating with Young Children

When Halloween night comes around, there is no doubt that your little ones are just itching to get out there in full costume to tromp from house to house for candy. However, with all of the chaos of little ghosts and vampires and witches running about, homes distractingly decorated to look like haunted houses, and your own children wanting to go down every street in the neighborhood as to not miss a single candy opportunity, trick-or-treating can be overwhelming and safety can quickly become an issue. Luckily, with just a few tips, you can make sure that the Halloween festivities are both fun and safe for you and your children.

1. Bring along a flashlight and put some glow bands or reflective tape on your children's costumes. Though your street may have streetlights, it still can be difficult to see others in the darkness of the popular trick-or-treating hours. Bringing along a flashlight can help you to avoid stumbling as well as make others aware of your presence. The glow bands and reflective tape on your children's costumes can also help other pedestrians and drivers see your children in the dark, which will prevent any accidental and possibly detrimental bumps and collisions. This is especially important if your children's costumes are particularly dark because they could be nearly invisible in the shadows.

2. Plan your route beforehand and avoid any unfamiliar or unpopulated streets. Before Halloween, scout out the streets that you want to explore with your children. Try to stick to the places that you know will be popular, as well as places that you are fairly familiar with. After all, you do not want to end up lost on Halloween night when you have your children in tow. To find homes that you know will provide treats, look for streets that have the most Halloween decorations out. Typically, those who go through the trouble of decorating for Halloween will also be home to pass out treats to trick-or-treaters as well. This way, you also will not have to walk too many streets on Halloween night in order to fill your children's Halloween baskets.

3. Go with a relatively small group. Group trick-or-treating can be more fun for children because they can spend Halloween with their friends. However, be sure that the group size stays small, with about six to eight individuals. Also be sure that there is at least one responsible adult or older child to look after every three to four children. You do not want to have to handle a group of children by yourself, so reinforcement is always a good idea, especially on a chaotic night like Halloween.

4. Remind your children about general safety rules before you leave the house. Halloween can be an exciting time for children, and they may temporarily forget general safety rules about how to behave towards strangers and how to cross the street. This is why it is important to remind children of these rules before you leave the house. Emphasize how important it is to stick together, to be polite but never go into a stranger's home or car, and to only cross the street when you say that it is okay. Remember that there will still be cars around on Halloween night, so street safety refreshers are essential.

5. Check your candy haul before anyone eats any. It is an unfortunate reality that some people may wish to harm children by slipping undesired materials into Halloween candy. For this reason, it is imperative that you check your children's candy haul before they dig into it. Have them help you look for opened wrappers, torn wrappers, or any other suspicious-looking candy. Avoid unwrapped treats altogether. It can be a good idea to have an extra stash of candy put aside to replace the ones that must be thrown out so that your children will not object to tossing out undesired candies.
